Birdman | Fred Nicholas Jack Honeysett | 2011

Birdman is about the relationships between the living and the dead. Fred Nicholas adopts the role of a shaman performing a set of rituals in order to reach out to and commune. Through the creation, anointing and wearing of a bird costume, which is later cremated. The video presents the stages of the ritual in non-chronological order, and when installed each part of the performance occupies its own video channel and display method in order to dislocate the viewing experience. The aim is to keep the viewer centred in their own body and crates uncertainty about the progression of the elements of the shamanic performance.
