United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub
Â鶹´«Ã½ is the only higher education institution in Britain to be a global hub for one of the Sustainable Development Goals – SDG 16 to promote peace, justice and strong institutions. The SDGs were introduced by the United Nations in 2010 with the aim of improving the lives of millions of people by 2030.
Project Atefa
A refugee advocacy project led by student volunteers to tell the real stories of refugees and asylum seekers. The project is led by Jemima Duodu, a Â鶹´«Ã½ student who helped found the project and graduated to become a Â鶹´«Ã½ SDG Hub employee.
Climate Champions: Net Zero Campaign
The net zero project has been rebranded to the Climate Champions: Net Zero Campaign. It covers the net zero football initiative; Politics for the Planet; and 29 Ideas for COP29.
Politics for the Planet
A project to give staff and students their say on what the policies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals should be as major global elections loom. This project is mediated by the UNAI and overseen by Politics and International Relations student Marta Dos Santos Sapina Afonso.
29 Ideas for Cop 29
An open forum to gathering new ideas from staff and students for decision makers at the next global climate change talks. The project is led by Nafi Ba, a Â鶹´«Ã½ graduate employed by the Â鶹´«Ã½ SDG Hub.
Carbon Literacy Training
Carbon Literacy Training is one day’s worth of learning that enables participants to better understand the climate emergency and to develop meaningful plans to play their part in combatting climate change.
Sustainable Travel: Project Daria
When Â鶹´«Ã½ placement student Daria Brazhnyk joined the Sustainability Team, she had never ridden a bike before but decided to learn because it’s a sustainable way of transport. Daria was among the one in eight adults in Britain who’d never learned to ride a bike, but thanks to the Sustainability Team and Leicester City Council, she has transformed from a cycling novice to a proficient cyclist.
Hedgehog Friendly Campus
The Hedgehog Friendly Campus scheme encourages staff and students to take on biodiversity objectives which help reduce harm to these adorable and endangered spiky mammals.
