Â鶹´«Ã½ compiles countdown of Leicestershire's biggest businesses


The biggest businesses in Leicestershire were revealed this morning in The Top 200 Companies list for 2022, compiled by Â鶹´«Ã½ Leicester (Â鶹´«Ã½).

Â鶹´«Ã½ academics from the Faculty of Business and Law crunched the numbers on turnover, growth and staff numbers to compile the list.

Top of the tree was the Sytner Group, which has a £6bn turnover and employs 10,500 staff at its sites. It represents the world’s most prestigious car manufacturers, including Aston Martin, Bugatti and Ferrari.

Linda Hickson, Head of Â鶹´«Ã½’s Accounting and Finance Department, said: “In the year we looked at, the combined turnover of the companies on the list for Leicester and Leicestershire was £36.4billion and they grew their staff to 155,000 people – which is very, very impressive.”

The Top 20 was revealed at a breakfast event at Winstanley House hotel in Leicester, this morning which included trophies for the biggest business, highest new entrant and highest climber.

That highest new entrant to was BM Fashions (Holdings), based near Leicester station in St George’s Way, and trades as Fashion UK.

Fashion UK makes licensed and branded clothing featuring characters from some of the world’s biggest films and television programmes, from Disney to The Simpsons, Chupa Chups, Peppa Pig, Fortnite and Star Wars.

Highest climber Amber Beverage UK, which was previously known as Cellar Trends, has climbed 64 places from 197 to 133 since the last list came out. It trades out of Castle Donington.

The figures are based upon the Companies House data from spring 2019 to spring 2020, so do not cover the full effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.  

Rik Pancholi, owner and director of Pattersons Commercial Law, which sponsor the Top 200, said the list “serve as an inspiration to others who are starting with just an idea. These companies bring aspiration to the region, they show what can be achieved.”

Richard Edwards, regional events manager for LeicestershireLive and BusinessLive parent company Reach Plc in the Midlands and South East regions, said the listing reflected the success of the large and medium sized companies that have made the regional business community what it is today.

Mr Edwards said: “It has never been more important to celebrate the vital role played by our county’s largest companies.

“We have some exceptional businesses located in our region who are achieving great things – they are living proof of Leicestershire’s economic resilience and strong commercial vitality.”
